- 1 Weapon Skins
- 2 Character Skins
- 3 Crates
- 4 Progression
Weapon skins allow for the customization of the three tools as well as the three guns. Weapon skins are selected by the player and cannot be changed during a game. These skins are immediately applied upon items that are crafted at the crafting bench in the cabin. Weapon skins can be obtained through various means including opening crates and character progression.
Character skins include all aspects of the player's physical characteristics that are customizable. This includes: hats, hair, glasses, facial hair, scarves, jackets, pants, boots, mittens, and backpacks. These skins can be obtained through various means including opening cosmetic crates and character progression. Occasionally, older and more rare skins will become available through the vault. Character skins are selected by the player and cannot be changed during a game; this is not to be confused with swapping clothes with other players or getting resurrected via the Lazarus machine.
Crates can be obtained through various ways including the Steam Marketplace and the in-game store. All crates can be sold on the Steam Market and opened at any point in time. Crates come in two forms: Regular and Holiday and Event.
Regular crates are crates that offer cosmetic rewards in varying rarities. These crates may be acquired for survivor points indefinitely. They may also be sold on the Market. Examples include: Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Supernatural.
Common crates feature commonplace rewards and may be bought via the in-game rewards tab for 500 player currency.
Rare crates feature rare rewards and may be bought via the in-game rewards tab for 1,000 player currency.
Epic crates feature epic rewards and may be bought via the in-game rewards tab for 2,000 player currency.
Legendary crates feature legendary rewards and may be bought via the in-game rewards tab for 4,000 player currency.
This crate features items of the Blackout DLC theme. Supernatural crates may be bought via the in-game rewards tab for 10,000 player currency. Supernatural crates are the same price as Holiday and Event crates when they first release.
Holiday and Event Crates
Holiday and event crates are crates that offer cosmetic skins of a specific theme. For the duration of the event, they may be acquired for 10,000 survivor points via the in-game rewards tab. However, event or holiday crates can only be bought for survivor points for a limited period of time. After which, they may be acquired through and sold on the Steam Market. Examples include: Halloween, Easter, Christmas, Freedom, and Summer Celebration.
Halloween Halloween crates may refer to the Halloween crates released during October of 2019.
Easter crates may refer either to the Easter or Easter2020 crates.
Christmas crates may refer to the Christmas crates released during December of 2019.

Specific progression sets are time sensitive and cannot be unlocked after said time has expired; but their rewards may be purchased afterwards. Such progression sets include:
